WHO WE ARE

Southside Community Center is a reconciliation space that has been birthed from biblical community development principles. In 2017 Pastor Lloyd Brock and Pekin First Church of the Nazarene family hired Pastor Irene Lewis-Wimbley in hopes of making a greater kingdom impact in the Southside of Peoria . Southside Community Center belives that the community can be transformed one relationship at a time.

Southside Community Center focus is two fold: Southside for the Community and Southside for the Church.

Southside for the Community focusus on three areas

  • 1) Youth Leadership and Enrichment
  • 2) Parent Support and Education
  • 3) Freedom Ministries including Literacy Center open for GED tutoring.

Southside for the Church focuses on

  • Intentionally bringing belivers of all colors and backgrounds together to reflect the kingdom of heaven. As well as equiping everyone with the tools needed to penetrate the most vulnerable and underserved areas in our communities with the gospel.  Southside Community Center is located in the second most economically depressed zipcodes in the State of Illinois. We beleive that Southside is the perfect training ground for equipping in areas of emotional regulation, trauma informed engagement strategies, biblical reconciliation, racial reconciliation, developing indiginous lay leaders, and deliverance ministry. We belive that by equiping ourselves in these areas we are able to penetrate marginalized populations with the gospel.

Our Three Core Ministries

01

Youth Leadership and Enrichment

Southside is designed as a safe space to develop youth into leaders and find creative expression of emotions. The V.A.L.U.E.S model helps us reinforce how valuable God believes they are. This happens through our youth summer day camp and after-school arts-based programing.

Vision God has for your life.

Attitude that determines your ability to meet your goals.

Leadership is a daily lifestyle that we choose.

Understanding of relationships with God, ourselves and others.

Excellence/Education is the how we leave our mark on the world.

Serving our community is an important quality of leaders.

02

Parent Support and Education

SCC recognizes that parenting is hard.  We invest in the parents who are the life-long influence in the lives of their kids.  Statistically, any youth program may have 40-60 hours per year to pour into a child, where parents have more than 3000 hours a year.

Moms Mornings Out is a quarterly partnership with Methodist School of Nursing where we offer themed, pampered experiences for breakfast, learning, and crafts support.

M.O.M.S Group - Moms Offering Moms Support Group

Meets Monday mornings, from 9:00-11:30 am, our building is open for our moms and their little ones offering a safe space to come for support and to hear creative topics and speakers.  Light breakfast and lunch is served.
